Program Description: 
This course is designed exclusively for individuals experiencing early cognitive change to moderate dementia. CST has been found to improve general cognitive functioning, language comprehension and production, and quality of life. Each CST session is designed to stimulate thinking and memory, and connect with others in a fun, social, and relaxed atmosphere. The sessions follow a general theme, with activities chosen based on the interests of the group. Groups are limited to 6-8 participants. Our approach to brain fitness is an evidence-based practice referred to as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy and is delivered by LiveWell’s trained dementia specialists.

Participants will take active steps to: 
- Improve brain function 
- Maintain independence 
- Decrease depression 
- Build confidence 
- Improve self-esteem 

Facilitator Biography

Brian Connolly | Community Engagement Partner
Brian has been passionate about community education, advocacy, and empowerment for the past 40 years. Through a diversity of roles; Chair of the Hartford Hospital Stroke and Family Advisory Council, Director of Marketing and Communication, elected member of the Farmington Town Council, and pioneer member of the LiveWell Resilient Living Center Faculty leading Social Café’s, Meet-Up’s and cognitive programming, Brian focuses his attention on understanding what’s needed to create situations where we can all grow into our highest potential.

Brian’s superpower is being present with you and creating the perfect moment to make anyone smile. He lives with his wife in Farmington.

Patty Richard | Community Engagement Partner
Patty loves both professional and personal opportunities to learn and grow every day!  She brings her dynamic people skills into each situation, focused on deep listening understanding. As a pioneer member of the LiveWell Faculty, she has directed her skillset to a deeper understanding Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST), co-facilitating with a variety of partners and contributing ideas to the continued refinement of this strength-based best practice intervention.  She feels this program brings together some of the essential components of her own life; fitness, social interaction and interesting and diverse thought and conversation. She has witnessed relationships grow, bonds form, and enthusiasm from each of the participants who repeat the program over and over.  Patty’s enthusiasm for connecting with people impacted by dementia was inspired by her own experience as a care partner. Patty also administratively supports The LiveWell Institute and the launch of The Empowering Partnerships Network. She loves to work out regularly, travel with her husband and watch after her growing grandchildren.
