Facilitator Biography
Alison Baker- Owner/Florist of The Green Petal

The Green Petal is owned and operated by Alison Corbett, a designer whose passion for flowers has been lifelong.  After years of working in the floral industry and watching friends and family get married Alison decided that she wanted to bring the beauty and joy of flowers to others through her own business. It was January of 2015 when The Green Petal had been born.

Alison attended a vocational/agriculture high school and it's there she discovered her true passion. High school is where she began working in greenhouses and taking floral design classes. She demonstrated her leadership skills as President of The Sound School FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter for 4 years. Participating during this time in State and Regional FFA floral design competitions; winning first and second place ribbons.

Alison continued her education in horticulture through her college years at the University of Connecticut and then started studying business administration at Southern Connecticut State University  where she graduated in 2012.

For twelve years Alison had the pleasure working for other florist which of whom she admires and still has great relationships with. One of which being a high end florist located on Martha's Vineyard, where she had the opportunity to arrange flowers for President Barack Obama.  The Vineyard is where she discovered her desire to work with Brides, creating weddings there that she never could have dreamed of.

As much as Alison adores the Vineyard, her college summers there had to come to an end. She moved back home to Connecticut and at 25 she decided to make her dream a reality. She took that crazy idea of hers (crazy at the time) and opened her own business.  As she was building new relationships with clients and potential brides she also started working in the wholesale flower industry. (after all it usually takes at least a year to plan a wedding) She was eager to learn as much as she could about the flower industry - Alison worked there for a few years till The Green Petal really took off. She always knew her flowers but she gained so much knowledge on varieties, colors, and pricing.

A few years The Green Petal moved into a studio downtown Wallingford on Center Street. This is where she shined. Following her passion and working on weddings weekend after weekend. Receiving Best Wedding Florist for both Best of Hartford Magazine and Best of New Haven for 2019. And also, winning 3rd place and the Novice Award in the 2019 Newport Flower Show.  Alison truly loves what she does and it defiantly shines through her work. As we approach 2020 and our 5 years anniversary in business The Green Petal is truly grateful to have had 187 Weddings since opening. Thank you to every single one of you - keep telling all your girlfriends - Alison can’t wait to help make their special day that they’ve dreamed about forever come to life!
